Self Hypnosis for Stress: Cool Tool #40 - Practically Enlightened You

It’s official. The holiday season is here. Saturday November 10 I heard my first holiday carolers of the season. Good time to add tools that will help you stay relaxed and grounded throughout the upcoming months.

My friend and colleague, Joni Brewer, agreed to provide an article on one of her specialties, hypnosis. She even included a link to a guided self-hypnosis recording. Enjoy. 


Ever been curious about hypnosis? Maybe you’ve seen an act at the fair or on TV. Stage hypnosis is really about people having fun. Those folks up on stage want to be there, they don’t care if they act silly; they’re ready to entertain the crowd and have a good time!

Hypnosis done in an office is helping ordinary everyday people with ordinary everyday problems. Areas that are often worked with include: anxiety, fears, habits, weight loss, stop smoking, improving sports performance, assistance with healing, getting clarity about an issue, and of course, stress reduction.
Have you ever watched a good movie and when it was over you had to make an adjustment to finding yourself in a theater, not where the movie was taking place? How about driven past your destination, or not remembering the last few blocks that you drove? Ever lost track of time when you were doing something that you enjoyed? You were hypnotized! It’s a natural state of being very focused that we go in and out of all day. In the office I simply guide you into that state and we use that focus, and the power of your mind, to bring about the changes that you desire.
Contrary to what is often portrayed in the media a hypnotist can’t make you do anything that you don’t want to do and you can’t get “stuck” in a hypnotic state. The worst that could happen while listening to this audio is that you may fall asleep, though most people find that they wake up as the audio ends. 
Before you listen to the Stress Reduction audio rank your stress on a scale of 0 – 10 with 0 being no stress and 10 being pull-your-hair-out crazy. Then listen to the audio and rank your stress again after it’s done. If the number has gone down you know that the hypnosis worked. The audio that you’re about to listen to is good by itself but a few tailor-made sessions in my office will give you the best results.
Most people enjoy listening to this audio while they’re sitting in a comfortable chair that supports them or while laying down. This certainly isn’t necessary though and you can listen to it in any position, just tell yourself to relax as much as possible keeping only enough muscle stability to hold that position.
You do need to close your eyes though so please, listen to this audio only when it’s safe to close your eyes.

After 16 years I wanted to get more “hands on” so became a Licensed Massage Therapist (Oregon lic. #6605) and started teaching Anatomy and Physiology at Oregon School of Massage.
