You want to be authentic with your clients. You know that when you bring your vulnerable self to your work you get better results.

But showing your tender underbelly to clients can feel scary.

What’s a Conscious Entrepreneur to Do?

One of my favorite tools for protection is frankincense (Boswellia carteri.)

Why do you think the wise men brought this precious resin to baby Jesus as a birthday gift? I can just hear the wise men asking their wise wives to head out to the market and pick up a little something for the baby. I’m guessing it was the balm of protection along with the resin’s ability to connect one with their spiritual self that made it the must have gift for baby Jesus.

To produce the oil the tree is scraped. Then the tree produces a resin to protect itself. Smart tree. Emulate the tree and you’ll have some protection of your own.

Frankincense and You

Some people burn the resin. I use the oil that’s distilled from the resin. So what do you do with the oil?

You can sniff the oil from the bottle. You can dilute it in a blend with either water for a spray or oil to use on your skin. I have a blend that contains frankincense that I use in my office to create a sense of protection. In a blend you won’t need much of this oil to impart it’s signature smell.

This comforting oil smells warm, sweet, and woodsy. Recovering Catholics be forewarned. One of my clients had an aversion to the oil because it reminded her of her less than pleasant Catholic upbringing.

Other Uses

This protector of your spirit is a multitasking winner. The fragrance can help:

  • Connect you to your spiritual self.
  • Move you into mediation.
  • Still busy emotions.
  • Release connections to your past that get in your way.
  • Soothe stress and anxiety.

Have you used frankincense? Share your experiences here.

You know that stress impacts you and your business negatively. And you aren’t enjoying the evidence of that stress. Anxiety, extra weight, colds, sleepless nights, tension headaches, unhappy bank account, or an argument with your significant other… They all make you less productive.

You know you need, make that want, to do something to feel more balanced. And you know there are plenty of tools. At least 52. 😀

Tools are Cool, But First…

But before you start trying on tools you need to set an intention.

Why is an intention important? It’s your resolve, your reason. It shines light on the importance of reducing your stress both for you personally and for your business, for your treasured clients and customers.

Reducing stress, achieving more balance. Neither of these inherently have value. The value comes from your results. And you first need to determine what kind of results you want to put in your shopping cart. No junk food here.

Picking up the Scent

Setting an intention means you stop dead or actually alive in your tracks. You pick up the scent of that which you’ve come here for. You get down on all fours. You explore the dirt. You dig. You sniff. And in all of that you find the scent that you’ll follow. Your intention really says, I will follow this trail. I want more. I want wholeness.

Moving forward without intention might seem easier at first. Let’s just get to it. Moving forward with intent means you do some work. It’s like tilling your soil before you throw seeds down rather than just tossing some seeds down. But you’ll get more results from taking the time to set an intention.

Your intent?

Write down your intention related to claiming more balance. Couple of guidelines for you.

  1. Use “I intend” as your starting phrase.
  2. Include the “what” and the “why.”
  3. Use words that have meaning for you. Use powerful active words.
  4. Posting your intention here means you’ll be inviting support from all who read this. It commits you at a deeper level when you announce your intention to the world. Another way to enhance your success. I’ll show you my intention if you show me yours.

 The Rewards of Intention

Once your intention is in place you’ll be able to more easily select the correct tools for you. Plus you’ll find it easier to stick with your new patterns because the reasons for making a change will be clear.

A fellow entrepreneur recently confided that she’s been struggling with anxiety. Her racing heart was scary. Could something be wrong?  Her doc prescribed anti-anxiety meds and all was well for awhile.

Then the symptoms resurfaced. Back to the doc. The dosage went up and again her heart quit doing the rumba. But once again her heart headed back to the dance hall. She said her head knew she was safe. But her body was yelling danger, danger. Something wasn’t right.

Override switch?

We can try and override the wisdom of our bodies. But our bodies and our spirits are wise. Very wise. Your body wants to keep you alive. Your spirit wants you to be whole. We develop clever ways to cover up these messages. To ignore them.

My friend didn’t want to blame herself. If you believe that your thoughts create your reality you can fall into a trap of blame. For example, if my thoughts were more perfect/pure I wouldn’t have contracted this disease.

And then there’s the law of attraction. Focus on your anxiety and won’t you just get more anxiety? Rather than focus, I’m suggesting you give a persistent message a voice. Think of what you’re doing as enlisting the support of an interpreter. I’m talking about making a safe place for your wisdom to come forth.

When you listen to these kinds of messages you and your business will be more whole, more authentic.

So how do you create do this place? You may have your own way of accessing your inner guidance. Use that. Here are some ways that have worked for me when a message refused to be ignored.

1.     Meditate and ask for information. Then be still and pay attention. During the meditation you can also see the symptom outside of yourself and have a conversation with it.

2.     Draw, paint, collage, sing, write, or dance the message. Let the message come through art.

You need to disconnect from your thinking mind and give your wild intuitive mind the reins.
